Some of Cullen Schachtschneider's favorite toys, including a tractor and horse, lie on the family room floor as his mother Amanda Smith changes his bandages.
Three months earlier, Schachtschneider, 6, nearly lost his leg when he got tangled up with a machine on the family's small dairy farm. Missing most of his kindergarten year, Schachtschneider has undergone multiple surgeries and skin grafts.
With falling milk prices, the family's small dairy is unable to hire outside help to manage daily tasks, so many of these chore responsibilities fall on the shoulders of the young Schachtschneider boys.
