CHICAGO, IL - Wednesday, May 24, 2017:
DePaul, which has made great strides to improve library use among students, offers phone charging stations.
An April survey laid out some worrisome but not unexpected trends for college libraries: Among them, a decreasing sense of support from host institutions, and a growing recognition that discovering information does not and should not begin in the library.
The internet and the economic pressure colleges feel to prove their value have led many libraries to shift their attention. Rather than maintaining catalogues, librarians are paying more and more heed to providing teaching and research support. Embedding librarians in first-year programs or having them develop course assignments with faculty members are just two examples.
