In 2016, Chris Hampton told his guidance counsellor about his mother's boyfriend's emotional and physical abuse. Hampton, his brother Alex Hampton and his mother Shandy Brown, a drug addict at the time, were living in a barn outside of Lucasville, Ohio, where Brown's boyfriend cooked meth.
