Maric Schachtschneider, 9, plays with his gun after milking and feeding the family's dairy cows on their farm outside of Ogdenburg, Wisconsin. The two eldest Schachtschneider brothers help with farm maintenance, including milking and feeding the cows using a skid steer, before and after school.

With falling milk prices, the family's small dairy is unable to hire outside help to manage daily tasks, so many of these chore responsibilities fall on the shoulders of the young Schachtschneider boys.

Three months earlier, Cullen Schachtschneider, 6, nearly lost his leg when he got tangled up with a machine on the farm. Missing most of his kindergarten year, Schachtschneider has undergone multiple surgeries and skin grafts.

With Cullen laid up, his two older brothers -- Kholer, 8, and Maric, 9 -- continue to help with farm maintenance, including milking and feeding the cows using a skid steer, before and after school.
