Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who took office in January 2019, has proposed to close Benton Harbor High School, the only high school in the predominantly black city of Benton Harbor, Michigan. The community’s school board must vote this week on a plan to close the school, which would send its high school students to predominantly white schools.
