Darryl Jones, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at Gettysburg College, greets Rowe-Clark Math and Science Academy students including junior Phillisha Taylor, at left, junior Tiara Brown, at center right, and junior Arita'Ja Miller on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015. Jones travels to high schools, including many that are considered lower-income, to meet students and encourage them to apply for Gettysburg College.

Story brief:
Often, higher-achieving first-generation or low-income kids “undermatch,” or choose schools that are less rigorous and selective than they’re capable of handling. That doesn’t bode as well for them, because research shows that students are more likely to graduate from more selective colleges.
